Moving Company Scams

I am setting up this blog to post my thoughts on moving companies like Team USA moving company. I am in the military and was forced to leave my wife to deal with finding a moving company. She went online and did a google search for "cheap moving companies". I guess we assumed that the lowest price was the way to go. Man was I wrong. She found a company called Team USA moving located in Fort Lauderdale Florida. We should have done some research because it's easy to find out what a scam moving company these people are. They are a moving broker which means all they do is take your money and dump you in the lap of some unsuspecting mover. Team USA used horrible math to come up with some lowball price for our move and convinced my wife to give them a deposit. We needed to be out of our house by the end of the month. Team USA movers said they would be at our house before the 26th. They showed up on the 29th with half a truck full of someone elses stuff and only two guys to load a 4 bedroom house. They being some other company that Team USA subcontracted to. My brother in law had to get a friend of his to help the guys because they had been driving for two days with no sleep (can you say scary). After a horrible day of packing and repacking stuff they realized another truck was needed and actually had to rent one for them. They got everything loaded and on the trucks. the two drivers took off in the two trucks with no one to back them up in cab. They promised they would get plenty of sleep but my wife knew they lied. She found a bottle of Ephedra pills in the bathroom that were not ours. They drove our stuff across state lines pretty fast. I guess they were in a rush to get the other peoples stuff delivered. Most of our stuff arrived intact but getting it in the new home was another story. The dumbest one of the two movers we had dropped my dining room table top in the living room and shattered glass everywhere. The fat one sat on my wifes wicker chair and crushed it like a straw hat. They scraped and scratched just about everything you can imagine including the hallway walls in my new house. As they were moving stuff in they claimed that we were way overloaded and we would need to pay more to get our stuff fully unloaded. My wife argued that we rented the damn truck but they told her some crap about weight stations and additional fines they paid. She was tired of fighting them and since they refused to finish the job she was forced to pay them another $1000 on the bill. That's after they had dinner at our home, slept in our garage and asked my new neighbor for a beer. Can you believe these people? We're trying to get our stuff replaced but its a hassle not worth fighting for.

If you are a victim of a moving scam you can visit this websitee and they will help you with getting back at the scum that ripped you off.

Luckily, I did not lose any money in my dealings with Team USA Moving, but it was overall a horrible experience, and I would NEVER recommend them even to my worst enemy. I had some confusion over the payment, and my truck was two days late on the delivery. When I called the supervisor to clear up some issues, he told me that he that he didn't need my "bs" because he made a 1600 on his SAT's. I guess that was his pompous way of telling me he thought I was stupid. We exchanged strong words before he hung up on me. I called him back, and he pathetically apologized, and we got some things taken care of. The company also lost my original weight tickets, which I needed to get a reimbursal from the Marine Corps since this was a military move. I had to call over fifteen times to finally have the weight tickets sent to me. The customer service was so atrocious. This company is a scam, and I would never deal with them again.

My family and I are also victims of a Team USA moving scam. The original quote was a low-ball figure that was too good to resist for moving 5 rooms worth of furniture from New England to Alabama so I dropped a deposit for over $700 to lock in the deal. When I called back as the move drew closer to add a couple of items to the list the price suddenly almost doubled. As it would be much less expensive to rent a moving truck and make the move ourselves the contract was canceled and a refund of the deposit was promised, less a $125 cancellation fee. That was in January of 2006 and to this date (03/27/2008), after countless phone calls and fake promises and alibis, no refund has been made. The phone number from the original contract is no longer in service. I even had an attorney submit a letter of demand of refund and still no contact from Team USA. If I can verify if they are still in business I plan on filing a suite against them in small claims court.

I had a horrible experience with the Federal Companies, they are one of the Allied Van Lines agents. First of all they called me and told me they were Allied Van Lines when they are in-fact the Federal Companies. They wouldn't quote me til they came in and "inventoried" my belongings (more like cased). Then they quoted me higher than every other company. They pressured me into booking with them. Then their criminal looking movers came and packed my things (more like just threw it in a box). Threw it into their junky orange truck then it broke down. They then proceeded to give me a spread when my things would possibly be delivered. My things showed up 5 days late!! when they opened the truck the devider wall was completely fallen over and all my things were tossed around the truck. They broke almost EVERYTHING. Then their claims department took like 90 days to cut me a check for 6,000. This is after I purchased their "0 deductable" valuation plan. They are the worst movers ever and I would rather go through the trouble of moving myself than to pay 12,000 for these criminals to deliver all my broken belongings to my new home. It really made my new house look great filling it with broken televisions and dishes and pictures and computer screens and even my furniture. IT was the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!

Moving scams is a new industry built on the deregulation by the DOT of the transportation and is well organized nationwide -
http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/022/RipOff0022517.htm

It's not even considered a crime since the police or the FBI would refuse to act if you contacted them saying that it's a civil matter!

You can also see how it operates in California at

Just make sure you give me credit for the articles. The blog adress is 4movinghelp.wordpress.com.

Just so everyone is clear, United Van Lines, Atlas, Allied and other major carriers all follow same guidelines for pricing.
HERE IS THE SCAM. Weight tickets. Where do they weigh the shipment? Who regulates weight tickets? The answer NO ONE. Most shipments are weighed at the truck stop on a certified scale, but you can weigh someone else's truck or hang a tire on the scale for your light weight. Heavy weight , is it before or after the driver filled his tanks with fuel and added 2 thousand pounds of weight to the shipment. You can pull a truck on the scale with the front axles of another truck on the scale with you and get whatever weight you want. The CAT scale weight ticket or any other weight ticket is a SCAM. Yes, the scale is certified, but it is only certified to whatever is on the scale. Some companies print up their own weight tickets. How can you pay based on a fake weight ticket?

Indeed, in some cases, you might get scammed by some companies, but in general, moving companies are very useful and essential. Without them, storing your stuff would be a hard thing to do.
